Michael Crichton’s sun sets at 66

November 13, 2008 1 comment People

The author who’s known for writing the “Jurassic Park,” “Congo,” “Twister” among many other pieces passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 in Los Angeles after a private battle with cancer. The family provided no further information about the memorial service as they want to keep it private.

Though I’ve only read two of Michael Crichton books “Rising Sun” and “Eaters of the Dead” he doesn’t in anyway fall short on the description of a great fiction author. The movie adaptations of his books is a testament as well. continue reading…

Philippines’ Apple Online Store now open!

November 12, 2008 2 comments Web

As if the recent populating of our local malls with iStores isn’t enough, the guys behind the Philippine distribution of Apple products have finally launched the online Apple Store. Now this should be a treat, like winning online casinos gambling, for kids who still have their parents trust on credit card extensions. The pricing is already in Philippine peso so worrying about paying more(when priced in $) due to unstable currency exchange is lessen. But, uhm, just have your calculators handy. continue reading…

Going to Dumaguete from Cebu city?

November 8, 2008 6 comments Travels

If you are planning to take a trip from Cebu city going to the calm and gentle residential town of Dumaguete city this post should be helpful. But you’ve got to do the ride with me first or at least limme share some bits of what I think about the place and don’t worry I’ll on cover one aspect only so it shouldn’t take long.

I mentioned residential because Dumaguete will never be an industrial or business haven in the next decade or so. And why so? Well, Dumaguetezens, Dumagueteneos or however else they call us, are loyal when it comes to food and the products relating to food. Milkmaid and Nanny still sells in this part of the country. Franchise of Thirsty and shawarma went best sellers for about a month or a couple more so before becoming a BIG flop. So, for business men wanting to penetrate with wet palates the city should think of bringing only brands that’s tested. I’m talking about McDonalds and Jollibee as these are sure to capture the hearts of many Dumaguetezens who’ve been craving for the tube ads. Yeah, try advertising like a madman before going into the battle at least. I still get my burger at Taster’s Delights which is at 15 Noblefrancia Street, Dumaguete City. I still am a Dumagueteneo by taste. :D continue reading…

I’m stuffed, man!

November 5, 2008 6 comments Short On Ideas

I have to finish the first season of House M.D. because I feel obliged to do so. I have to get my mind off of the fact that I got a pile of laundry staring at me. Dirty floor, unkept sheets and whatever else I haven’t handled in the past three weeks - that includes a hungry stomach. And I’ve to plan a surprise for my girlfriend who’ll be turning another year old in a couple of days. The LeDonne partnership with my company gives me 20% off which should be a good bargain but women are always very picky when it comes to shoes and bags so I’d rather not dare a couple of thousand bucks mistake. :| And returning it to the store would be another hassle-plus-infinity as I have to travel both land and water to celebrate her birthday.

The series of fast food trips is unhealthy. The satisfaction of mañana habit is overnight. Cigarette adds to a dirty floor. There are many entity affecting this side of my mind that’s been asking for a break. I took two days of the available incentive leaves offered for my team so I could swim out of the asphixiating waters of the city. I’m going provincial starting this coming Friday until Monday to get some fresh air.

And, yeah, Barack Obama won the US Presidential Elections. That’s a break! And I mean that in a good way if you get what I mean. But don’t dig deeper, in a political sense of the fact as some policy might be bad for outsourcing businesses in our country when he won, as I just need a good break to end this post and nothing more. :D

The mystery of Big and Small parts

November 2, 2008 2 comments Short On Ideas

This is when Big and Small matters. This is when the phrase “It’s not the size of the boat but the motion of the ocean” doesn’t hit home.

Since my eating partner went miles away, oceans apart, I’ve been eating quick. Fastfood is my comfort. And why with the mysterious one-piece-chicken question, “Big part ni, sir?” (Basically asking if I want the big part of their chicken). Who would go for the small part, man?

This is on three major fastfood chains: McDonalds, Jollibee and KFC. I always get the big parts in other chicken houses - Chinese Ngohiong, Tagala’s Chicken Butterfly. I don’t get the logic of this offer. It could be the number of minutes these parts spend floating around in cooking oil. Yeah, it should be the fast that this chains have on their food. Or something else…I don’t know.

End note: Many thanks to Hazel of Samsung for the Starbucks GCs.

Freelancing is another way to earn

October 29, 2008 5 comments Freelancing

Oh, it seems that I am on a roll for posting money-making entries. Well, nothing is planned for. They just seem to fall into pieces on its own. And, yes, this is not the money-making blog that you are searching for if you originated from any search engine.

I have been roaming in the vast listing of wanted freelancers in GetAFreelancer.com and got picked on one of the bids that I placed on the site about months ago. I was commissioned to finish a project. The job requires me to have this and that into its rightful place. I’ve to do some simple CSS-ing and PHP-ing and HTML-ing. I could do graphic manipulations but I don’t want to specialize on that at this moment as I am working, call it day job, and I’m a bit picky when it comes to that matter so simply put I don’t have the time to work as a graphic artist - yet. I will be the programming guy for this side venture.

I will be giving you updates about what happens as I am still working on the project. Time(zone) difference between me and my client is a b*tch but I’ll try to work it out. :D Click here to signup for a GetAFreelancer account. Start being the freelancer that you only wished you could be and live the good life! :) continue reading…

Google Adsense is for real!

October 27, 2008 10 comments Advertising

The entry’s title is addressed to the reluctant boys and girls who still think that making money in the internet is nothing but a “Congratulations, you’ve won a million dollars and click here to claim” cow pie way back.

This blog alone gave me two payouts from Google Adsense this year. I spent everything on the June payout that I cashed out through Western Union. The next one, which I decided for December, will be used to buy an iPod Nano so I could rock the Christmas away! The green one should be perfect but I’d go for the classy black, dude.

Generating $100 USD entitles anyone serving Adsense for a payout. For a small blog such as mine that’s a hard target to hit but hell I’m just happy getting another payout, man!

There are four ways to earn from the Adsense program:

  1. AdSense for Search
  2. AdSense for Content
  3. Referrals (Ended but gave part of my revenue)
  4. AdSense for Feeds (That I haven’t tried yet)

Edit: Thanks to Orville! I could have gotten the Google whipping for showing those stats. :D

Good morning is not just some words

October 26, 2008 3 comments Short On Ideas

I didn’t notice the huge amount of rain that washed away the pigeon’s poop at my neighbors roof or that that silenced the early morning kakadoodledooooooooing of roosters. I sleep like a croc who’s just ingested a carabao. The alarm was set to explode at around four thirty so at least I have time to waste before I head to do the perpetual washing of the body.

At around five thirty I would be the heckler with the noisy shoes going down the staircase to the annoyance of the strangers living in the same roof still blowing their butts off sleeping. It is concrete alright but I have this tendency to do some tapping. I’m a frustrated dancer who never wanted to learn how to dance. continue reading…
