Christmas cavalcades in black
December 28, 2008 2 comments EventsI was expecting to see a lot of Chistmas lights while passing through the Cebu towns on my way home to celebrate Christmas Oh Eight with my family in Sibulan. My expectations where burnt with darkness. Most, yes most, of the households had their lights turned off. House lights were turned off. My better thinking tells me this is just a way to direct Christmas carolers away but after close checking it wasn’t. They didn’t have it! Majority of the households didn’t have any of those lights.
Doing the same checking on the towns after crossing Tañon Strait, the body of water that separates Cebu and Negros Oriental, the last line on the last paragraph still holds true.
I can’t say people have lost their Christian ways because passing churches early in the morning on my way to work say otherwise. I can’t say people don’t have the money because going inside major malls in Cebu city was a war on the days before Christmas.
I dunno, man, but I guess the line “kumukutikutitap na bombilya” is irrelevant at this day and age.
Will be checking next year.

Beer Talk 1: Soft Launching of DefConPH in Cebu
December 21, 2008 Write a Comment EventsSoft launching of DefconPH tagged as BeerTalk 1 was successfully held at Handuraw in Gorordo Avenue, Cebu city yesterday afternoon.
For the uninitiated, DefconPH is the Philippine Information Security Convention is the local equivalent of the Defcon Group International and is registered as DC6332.
Start of the event was delayed by about an hour and a half due to the inavailability of electricity in the area. And when the power went back, setting up the presentation tools also took time. The gods were playing funny.
Introduction of members kicked started the event. (Three fellow CBS members where there: Paul, Aileen, Gerry). Then Dax/Semprix, event’s speaker, initiated the talk. Beer and pizza were also made available in the table. Not much really was discussed but it’s the soft launching, man. The actual con will be June next year and it’ll still be held in Cebu so hat tip to the organizers for making it accessible to Cebuanos. There are plans of doing Beer Talk 2 in Manila but nothing has been made official yet so to our friends in there, be on the watch for announcements!
Well, see you guys soon and much more good stuff will be shared. Big thanks to Ederts and Dax for bringing this home!
Thoughts on Wolfgang Black Christmas Project in Cebu
December 13, 2008 7 comments EventsThe event started about two hours late as scheduled. I’ve downed three Red Horse stallions and my gf a glass of iced tea and a serving of sisig before Powerspoonz kick-started the show.
The crowd were still camping on the side of the stage boozing up. My colleague then arrived with his posse’ and positioned their table next to ours. Powerspoonz ended their set with these echoing last words “…magkaisa Pilipino!”
Cuarenta then took the stage with their bluesy tunes and covers luring partly drunked boys to the front of the stage with their frontwoman’s sexy cowgirl outfit. continue reading…

If my last post about Sepultura coming to the Philippines didn’t give you the feeling of being lucky to be in this blessed undeveloped country this next music post probably will.
Our beloved hard rocking Wolfgang band is f*cking back! The band that we’ve been longing for 6 years to resurface and howl again will finally come out of wherever comfort it took shelter on. Basti and the gang will be partying with the many hungry cubs in an event entitled Black Christmas Project which will be held at Eastwood City Central Plaza, Libis (near Ortigas Avenue) on Wednesday, December 10th, at 7 p.m.
Will this be a listening party for the new songs that they’ve been working on secretly over the internet? I absolutely believe so.
Tickets are now selling. You may online place reservations through ticketnet.com.ph or call Ticketnet (dial 911-555).
Sepultura live in the Philippines!
November 22, 2008 3 comments Events
One of my favorite(original lineup and older materials though) metal band will visit the country to headline in the 10th year of Red Horse Muziklaban! The Brazilian band Sepultura will tear the Muziklaban stage with other established Red Horse beer bands of the country like Queso in its national finals on November 29, 2008 at the Marikina Sports Complex.
For the unitiated, Muziklaban is simply a battle of the band with the right financier. This is, as you may have already figured out, done every year through provincial clashing of bands until a descent listing of finalists is reached to battle it up for the national finals. The band who sung “Jopay” is an example of how much market value your band can become after winning this prestigious battle. I mean importance, man. Positive is my new thing now.
A new album from Sepultura is slated for a January release next year. The album is “A-Lex” and is a concept album inspired by the book “A Clockwork Orange” by Anthony Burgess. A-lex is Russian for no law.
Do the jump to see the actual flyer for more information. continue reading…
