Cebu Bloggers Society second year celebration
February 9, 2010 4 comments EventsI’ve never been very active with the group since its early days but I’ve seen it grow. The group have grown into such a force that’s hard to deny. I’d love to congratulate the people behind this great engine that is CBS for a job well done in keeping the train a-chugging!
Happy second anniversary, guys! Hoping to drop by if circumstances allow.

Give me 5ive!
December 3, 2009 2 comments EventsAfter maybe about two years of not meeting my brothers in rock, I was notified of the plan to do an anniversary gig for All Mixed Up (AMU) through Facebook’s IM. Without much thinking, because it doesn’t necessarily need that, I counted myself in. The backbone of the reunion/anniversary is the number 5. It’s been five years since the conception of AMU!
For the uninitiated, AMU is an independent Cebu-based gig organizers/producers run by college students. The goal is for us to be together in a night or rock ‘n’ roll and free beer but it’s really about providing venue for starters who don’t always get the chance to play on the more commercialized gigz and guesting established local bands. We’ve had Smooth Friction, Twinkle Dudu among other acts to grace our stage over the years.
The 2009 anniversary gig was entitled “GIVE ME FIVE!” to celebrate AMU’s fifth year. See online flyer below for more info:
On the night of November 28, 2009 smiles and high fives filled the air of SoundLounge – the bar at the back of Bo’s Coffee Capitol area. It, so far, had the best sounding drum kit and bigger and better amps and speakers. Manning the console is the owner of the bar. Thanks, Sean(possible spelling), my ear was still sonically reverberating even after hours since I disappeared from the venue to catch the next bus ride home.
The bands delivered. The place was packed. Thanks to those who came and partied with the old boys, and to those who didn’t maybe next time.
Cebu Guitar Festival 2009
November 25, 2009 2 comments EventsI’ll attend the Cebu Guitar Festival 2009 discretely tonight because my work starts at 10:00PM.
If there’s one thing that I’m required to mention about guitars it’s its glassy twangs and totally distorted buzzes. It’s clean or dirty for me.
See you there – in the Nick of time!

Happened to catch Sheila and the Insects and the blues collective(allow me to use this as I’m not really that familiar with them yet) who both played great sets. The perfect partner of The Outpost’s perfectly cold Red Horse.
Won’t be able to catch the outdoor setup of the Cebu Guitar Festival 2009 later tonight as I’ll be in Sibulan to spend time with my wife and our son who’ll be out of her mom’s nourishing body before the end of December or early January. Did some stuff buying myself.
Blog Action Day 2009: Climate Change
October 15, 2009 2 comments EventsEvery October 15 of every year, bloggers worldwide discuss a single topic of global importance. This year it is Climate Change.
I used to play basketball on an uncovered court during my elementary school days. On a high noon as that’s the only time when kids have the premise over grown-ups. The sun wasn’t that hot to boil our blood. And the air was soothing and cool.
I don’t think kids today will ever enjoy the sun the way we did before.
It’s hot now. Very hot!
Something is wrong. And we are perpetually doing so.
Help preserve our oneness with nature so we wont have to build armors to live in this harsh environment that one day we might just come refer to as our home.
Take care is not just something we give to our friends and lovers – Earth badly needs it too.

The Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day or Vive l’Angleterre, is a music festival taking place on June 21, which is usually the summer solstice. (source)
I know Fête de la Musique is annually celebrated in Manila, Philippines but I never knew about it being held in Cebu as well. Thanks to Clarence‘ post.
Cebu Fête de la Musique ‘09 will be on June 21, 2009 at The Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu 5pm onwards.
Participating musicians are Joel Opurto, Prudence Salutillo, 560th Air Base Wing Band, Sinha Bahia de Capoeira, Sugbuwanon, Juress, Zarah Smith, Urbal, Island Joe, CDMC, Smooth Friction, Cuarenta, UNO, SATI, The Line Divides.
I’m looking forward to seeing Sheila and the Insects again and of course Smooth Friction as I haven’t seen them perform in a long time. Cuarenta’s blues though is still reverberating sexy-ly in my head.
Experiencing Maribago Bluewater; A Summer Blowout for Bloggers
May 17, 2009 9 comments Events
I went to the Summer Blowout for Bloggers by Maribago Bluwater Beach Resort dog-tired. I’ve been at work for eleven(11) hours straight with Albertos pizza(without its buddy – the beer) on the last hour before leaving the office. How bed inviting was it for me being filled with pizza before my days off? Super! But I could not yet end the day as I have to meet my parents who are in Cebu as my father is to take an examination that would make him eligible to hold the second highest position in their school. I took them to the tinolahan infront of SM City Cebu, at the back of Dew Foam, as promised(great big tasty tinola that I used to go to with my former team mates) then went on to the department store until pickup time for the event.
I missed the ride!
Ha Ha
After making sure where Maribago is through a number of calls from friends who might know where it is I took a cab to get there. I always enjoyed asking taxi cab drivers if they were already using LPG(Liquified Petroleum Gas) for fuel. They always get very political and economical that’s always very pleasing to my ear.
Upon reaching the wood gate of Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort, I was greeted by a very hospitable personnel who might have noticed the ID I was wearing – they made us an identification with our name on it. Thinking we were to get a room, I then entertained my dog-tired mode for the day again. Not speaking. Not talking. I was taking too many pictures that I sure will cut down to a dozen later for publishing. (Continued…)
Asus Ultimate 2009 Overclocking Show at SM City Cebu
May 15, 2009 1 comment EventsOverclocking? I’ve tried this before using the utility that came with my mobo(motherboard). It failed BIG time! Kicked me out of the operating system by cutting the power off right at the very moment I decided to touch the one-step-up switch on the GUI(Graphical User Interface). That was the only time that I ever tried overclocking because, being a student then, I could not afford anymore spare that I already had for my beer sessions if I my computer dies.
Then came this Asus Ultimate 2009 Overclocking Show banner that I saw while in a taxi cab entering SM City, Cebu. Then I thought, how come I haven’t heard anything from my peers in Cebu Bloggers Society about this? Are we not much of a force that the organizers haven’t heard before or maybe wasn’t hangin’ up in the CBS Forums lately because in fact they are listing the names of those interested to join in.
I quickly signed up!
I will be there and absorb whatever there is to and flush out what I might have in my mind – that’s wrong – about overclocking. Overclocking show will be on May 23 at the Activity Center. See flyer after the jump for further details! (Continued…)
