Good morning is not just some words

October 26, 2008 Short On Ideas

I didn’t notice the huge amount of rain that washed away the pigeon’s poop at my neighbors roof or that that silenced the early morning kakadoodledooooooooing of roosters. I sleep like a croc who’s just ingested a carabao. The alarm was set to explode at around four thirty so at least I have time to waste before I head to do the perpetual washing of the body.

At around five thirty I would be the heckler with the noisy shoes going down the staircase to the annoyance of the strangers living in the same roof still blowing their butts off sleeping. It is concrete alright but I have this tendency to do some tapping. I’m a frustrated dancer who never wanted to learn how to dance.

About a few steps away from the gate a young adult carrying his ice bucket, which wasn’t used as it should be, greeted me, “Good morning, bossing!” I would usually just nod my head and make no remark for the gesture but my nicer side kicked in to reply, “Maayong buntag, bai.”

It’s strange to have a stranger make a dark day a notch brighter.

So, say good morning to anyone you see, if you feel like doing it. You wouldn’t know how much it would impact their lives at least for that day.
