Kenneth Cobonpue (Image source: http://pinoycentric.com/2007/04/16/conquering-the-world-one-design-at-a-time/)
Kenneth Cobonpue doesn’t need any introduction to the international furniture community or maybe even locally and though I missed the tour to his creative lair last September 5, 2009 with the Cebu Bloggers Society, because I happen to just sleep it through, I find it obligatory to still to post about him. A post that could someday inspire some of our brilliant minds in the same field as his to follow their star.

Anyway, for the uninitiated, Kenneth Cobonpue is an industrial designer known for his signature designs using rattan, buri, bamboo, and abaca.

It’s a wonder how he does it so listed below are the thoughts of the people who were there to witness and actually breath through the secrets of his creations:

Erap jokes and runs for president

Joseph Estrada (Credit goes to owner)This is what former Philippine president Joseph E. Estrada has to say when asked if he’s running for the 2010 Philippine Presidential Elections.

…tignan natin hanggang last week of September o first week ng Octrober (Source: Newsbreak)

Think he’s kidding? Or if he’s really still allowed to run? Well, read on, man.

According to ARTICLE VII Section 4 of The 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines the President shall not be eligible for any re-election but continues no person who has succeeded as President and has served as such for more than four years shall be qualified for election to the same office at any time.

No joke. No kidding. Didn’t he signed a resignation letter?

I see more Erap jokes a comin’ in 2010’s Philippine Presidential Elections but I wanna see the administration do something about it. Deadline is approaching, who will you be voting?

The art of winning the Philippine presidency

Seal of the Philippine President Ask me about politics and I’ll either give you a serious answer or an I-don’t-give-a-rats-ass slap in the face. Politics resides on both extremes – that to care about and the exact opposite. I’ve not lived that long to give much walk to the talk but the twenty four years that I’ve lived in this Philippine theater of politrics is enough to give weight on my observations, that which I call The art of winning the Philippine presidency.

Be putting those in a bullet for a clearer list and not expand much.

  1. Be one of the people who placed Cory Aquino in the position.
  2. Be a star. Ronald did it!
  3. Stop growing. It’ll make people look taller within.
  4. Always not do it for yourself.

Oh, this is one of those times when I’m not giving serious answers to politics. :)

But I can see something about Mar Roxas‘ withdrawal for the race. The shock factor still works. Wait and see, Philippines! Seriously!

Break a tooth away!

Comments Short On Ideas

Had the longest break ever from work. Imagine getting away from the busy world and stranded in a pool of crystal clear water and powder soft sand and the best-est island mixes in one mix. Yeah, imagine a week long absence from work with those.

But I wasn’t enjoying at that prestige. The closest that ever happened would be walking in in the dark sand, though with crystal clear water as well, of Sibulan with my wife and some rambutan on hand which was brought in by my mom from the single rambutan tree that we have in our yard. It may not be the perfect break that I had in mind on the opening but just having the people closest to your heart around is more than what and how perfect could be.

But not everything on that break was sunny side up. There were burnt parts as well that I still kept in my plate.

I’ve been thinking of having the first molar on my left jaw be removed – extracted for a better medical term. I’ve had that thought in, I think two years, everytime pain kicks the teeth. But it’s always been just a thought until I got married to my wife who happen to have a dentist aunt. Life is free. Destiny fulfilled. My dear tooth ye shall be removed!

Yeah, dear, BREAK, aside from taking the salary you also took a molar away. That’s the story, compadre!

Stream and eTelecare combines

stream etelecare

Minding other business is THE business.

Two of the major players in the global callcenter industry tied the knots for survival. Survival? Yes, survival because I work for one and I have to bang heads with the other in doing technical support for the same client – who makes computers who wants to cut down on their expenses. Will it be a happy ever after for competitors? Could be! Remains to be seen.

News says Stream Global Services, Inc. and eTelecare Global Solutions have combined in a stock-for-stock transaction. That’s a penny for a penny. Nothing less, nothing more. Equal.

The question is who’s got more?

Well, I can’t tell you about that but Scott Murray, Chairman and CEO of Stream, will lead the combined company. Some significant fact their that’s not really hard to ponder. :)

Press release after the jump, business people! (Continued…)

Les Paul: Another legend lost (1915 – 2009)

les paul

Year two thousand nine once again added a legend to THE list (FrancisM, Michael Jackson, Cory Aquino).

This time it’s guitar gods’ god Lester William Polsfuss better known as the guitar Les Paul. :D Seriously though, without this guys innovations on the craft, music would not have been as colorful and rocking and rolling today. He created the solid body electric guitar that we all know and love. Jimi Hendrix won’t be kissing the purple haze so sweetly without Les Paul.

To the innovator, may you rest in peace and thank you for the new music movement that you pioneered.

Carlo J. Caparas: Not a Visual Artist

Another bwahaha moment for the already very laugh-able Ate Glo government that we have. It’s nothing big for the majority of Filipinos but it is for those who happen to respect and appreciate the wonderful three letter perception called A-R-T. Though I’m not really laughing about it because it’s actually a S-E-R-I-O-U-S thing but it being another stupidity by her people made it such.

The thing is called the National Artist Award for Visual Art and Film which was recently awarded to Carlo J. Caparas. A somebody that’s everything but a visual artist.

Here’s Gerry Alanguilan, the other Filipino comic artist I look up to along with Whilce Portacio, summing it up through this line:

You claim you can draw. You’ve shown your drawings of eyes, or whatever they were on TV. But the issue here is whether you drew the comics stories that form the body of your work. YOU DID NOT.

This is what happens when people in the government decides to play god. Go down already, please, or just simply designate the job to people who knows what they’re doing.

We’re all Rant Caseys

Comments Readings

Rant by Chuck Palahniuk“The future you have tomorrow wont be the same future you had yesterday.”

I’ve finally read Rant by Chuck Palahniuk! That’s after carrying that book in my old No Fear slingbag for months. Reason being busy. Busy like the twisting timeline of the books narration.

Always the curious writer wanting to get to the bottom of things, Chuck Palahniuk once again created another monster. A rabid monster that is Rant Casey. The story is presented through an oral testimony from the people who knew Rant from start to finish(birth-death). There’s Christmas trees, wedding gowns, vintage coins, biting, (f)ucking, and party crashing. Everything is in here except Rant himself.

He is time travelling to change your future, man!

Cory Aquino; Always The Rockstar

Cory Aquino (1986) source: http://twitpic.com/cc5bt

There’s really nothing much that I could say about her running of the Philippines. I don’t think her government ever accomplished much aside from tweaking Marcos’ intelligent take over of the constitution. Which is not really bad for an alienated country.

Cory Aquino represented democracy at that moment. The real one! Though she reached the peak in Philippine politics using her own name, she still remained just a shadow of her late husband Ninoy. But she became the loving mother of a country that’s been wandering without one.

Cory Aquino’s death, very much like her legacy, hopefully will bring the spark back in our hearts of how to again become a Filipino with pride, choice and freedom.

Thank you for giving us what we now have and finally be with Ninoy.
