Christmas cavalcades in black
December 28, 2008 2 comments EventsI was expecting to see a lot of Chistmas lights while passing through the Cebu towns on my way home to celebrate Christmas Oh Eight with my family in Sibulan. My expectations where burnt with darkness. Most, yes most, of the households had their lights turned off. House lights were turned off. My better thinking tells me this is just a way to direct Christmas carolers away but after close checking it wasn’t. They didn’t have it! Majority of the households didn’t have any of those lights.
Doing the same checking on the towns after crossing Tañon Strait, the body of water that separates Cebu and Negros Oriental, the last line on the last paragraph still holds true.
I can’t say people have lost their Christian ways because passing churches early in the morning on my way to work say otherwise. I can’t say people don’t have the money because going inside major malls in Cebu city was a war on the days before Christmas.
I dunno, man, but I guess the line “kumukutikutitap na bombilya” is irrelevant at this day and age.
Will be checking next year.

The government today reiterated the pay rules for the regular holidays on December 25 (Christmas Day), December 30, 2008 (Rizal Day) and January 1, 2009 (New Year’s Day), as well as the special non-working days on December 26, December 29, and December 31, 2008 (Last Day of the Year).

Roque said that based on Proclamation No. 1463 issued by President Arroyo on February 18 this year, she declared December 26 (Friday) and 29, 2008 (Monday) additional special (non-working) days throughout the country, “in order to enable our countrymen to have a more meaningful observance of Christmas and New Year, to strengthen their ties with one another.”

A Christmas Waitlist
December 17, 2007 Write a Comment Short On Ideas
Everybody’s doing their Christmas wishlist. I am not doing that here. Instead, I will be listing the things that I’d probably be doing while wating for Christmas. Some very obvious human necessities like eating and drinking will not be mentioned.
- I would try to distance myself from alcohol.
- Finish reading Hocus Pocus by Kurt Vonnegut. I have been reading it very slowly for almost a year now because I don’t want to get through it yet.
- I finally bought George Orwell’s 1984. Should be next if I feel like finishing the latter.
- Ok, gimme alcohol, man!
- Cut cable TV and throw in The Simpsons DVD.
- Maybe do some more reading with Tom Robbins’ Even Cowgirls Get The Blues.
- Yesh! Alcohol somemow and some excess fruitcake.
